Verdict
Magnific is the new name for Freepik since 28 April 2026, and it now bundles 250 million stock assets with image, video and audio generators from Google, ByteDance and its own team. Tom's Guide was wowed by its Mystic model, but user reviews is full of paying users angry that 'unlimited' generations got slower and vaguer through 2026. It suits people making lots of social content more than someone after a single birthday card.

Ratings
What people say
user reviews's user in 2026 is dominated by paying subscribers complaining that 'unlimited' generations were throttled into slow queues and that priority allowances became a vague percentage, with a few long-term users saying it works fine for their business. Trustpilot (4.0 from 3,217) and Google Play (4.3 from 14,903) are far kinder than user reviews. The iOS rating rests on only 218 reviews, too thin to use.

“the switch from 1000priority generations to a percentage was the real dick move imho. once my yearly sub is up i'm out.”
Individual user review, 20 May 2026 · source
“Anything high-quality is going to be hidden behind credit-use, even image generation. Unlimited is helpful, but limited and will likely become more and more limited over time.”
Individual user review, 23 May 2026 · source
“If you run into a severe account error, their support is absolutely terrible. I am a Premium+ annual subscriber, and due to a system bug, my monthly reset of 1,000 fast generations was completely skipped.”

Privacy
- Trains on your data
- partly; the privacy policy says uploaded images and voices are never used to train its or partners' AI models, but prompts, outputs and feedback are analysed to improve the service under 'legitimate interest'. Its own F Lite model (2025) was trained on about 80 million licensed Freepik images; many other models offered come from third parties.
- Opt-out
- Right to object to the service-improvement processing of prompts and outputs under the privacy policy (by contacting Magnific); no in-app toggle found.
- Retention
- Uploaded images and audio deleted straight after generation; prompts and outputs kept for the life of the account, then blocked for the limitation period; third-party model providers keep data up to 30 days after generation.
- Incidents
- Aug 2020: SQL injection at sister site Flaticon exposed emails and password hashes of 8.3 million Freepik and Flaticon users. 2026: heavy user reviews complaints about throttled 'unlimited' plans and support after the rebrand. No AI copyright lawsuit against Freepik/Magnific found in searches of TechCrunch, Hacker News and web search on 2026-10-10. Freepik's F Lite model was built on licensed stock partly in response to the training-data dispute, but most generators on the platform are third-party models with their own training controversies.
- Age limit
- Adults only: privacy policy says products are aimed at persons of legal age unless explicitly allowed with parental consent; App Store rating 17+; Originals content 18+

FAQ
What happened to Freepik?
Freepik renamed itself Magnific on 28 April 2026. It is the same Spanish company and old Freepik logins work on magnific.com.
Is Freepik (Magnific) free?
There is a free account with limited daily AI use and free stock content. Paid plans start at £14 a month before VAT, or £10.50 a month billed yearly.
Are Magnific's 'unlimited' plans really unlimited?
Not in practice. Magnific says unlimited plans have a fair use policy and run behind credit users in the queue, and individual reviewers report waits of many minutes per image in 2026.
Can Freepik AI images be used commercially?
Freepik's own F Lite model was trained only on about 80 million licensed images, which TechCrunch reported in 2025. Many other models on the platform come from Google, ByteDance and others with their own training disputes.
Freepik vs Leonardo?
In Tom's Guide's March 2025 five-prompt test Freepik's Mystic model beat Leonardo, and the reviewer said it would be his go-to commercial generator.
